History The tournament was first held in 2008 in Hyderabad as part of the BWF Grand Prix Gold series. Its goal was to promote badminton in India and provide a platform for Indian players to compete against international talent. In 2011, the India Open was upgraded to a BWF World Super Series event, marking its rise in importance in the badminton circuit. With the introduction of the BWF World Tour in 2018, the India Open became a Super 500 event. In 2023, it was further elevated to a Super 750 event, increasing its prestige and prize money.
