The tournament is planned to be held in K. D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, India from 14th-19th January 2025 with a total prize money of US$950,000.

History

The tournament was first held in 2008 in Hyderabad as part of the BWF Grand Prix Gold series. Its goal was to promote badminton in India and provide a platform for Indian players to compete against international talent.
In 2011, the India Open was upgraded to a BWF World Super Series event, marking its rise in importance in the badminton circuit. With the introduction of the BWF World Tour in 2018, the India Open became a Super 500 event. In 2023, it was further elevated to a Super 750 event, increasing its prestige and prize money.

While it started in Hyderabad, the tournament has since been hosted in New Delhi for the majority of its editions. The current venue is usually the K. D. Jadhav Indoor Hall, which provides a world-class setup for players and spectators.
Indian players like K. Srikanth (2015), H. S. Prannoy, Saina Nehwal, P. V. Sindhu and a lot of other local players have shone on home turf. International stars such as Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia), Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) and Carolina Marin (Spain) have also claimed titles.

As a Super 750 event, the India Open attracts top-ranked players from across the globe, making it one of the most anticipated events in the badminton calendar and the tournament is broadcasted  internationally boosting the global reach and visibility for enthusiasts.

This tournament does not have an official mascot but till date it has done a very good job of promoting the rich culture of the country alongside the sport sport

The India Open has played a crucial role in cementing India's position as a major hub for badminton, alongside countries like China, Indonesia, and Denmark. It continues to inspire young athletes and elevate the sport's profile in the country and internationally.
